Puff stitch planning

Underlay, satin borders, density and sequencing are considered to help the foam stay covered and the raised effect remain crisp.

Production-ready output

The completed digitized artwork is prepared for your production workflow in the required embroidery format.

HOW PUFF WORKS

Foam underneath.
Planning on top.

3D puff embroidery sews over a layer of foam, so the lettering or logo stands up off the fabric. It looks great on caps and jackets, but it's unforgiving. Fine detail and thin lines get crushed or buried, and if the foam isn't fully covered you'll see it.

That's why puff files need their own digitizing. We plan shapes, stitch direction and satin borders so the foam stays covered and the edges stay crisp. If your artwork won't work as puff, we'll tell you what to change instead of sending a file that fails on the machine.

Puff designs are priced by size like other embroidery: up to 5 inches starts at $10, and larger designs are $25.

Bold shapes first

Chunky lettering and simple shapes give the best raised effect. We simplify the rest.

Full foam coverage

Underlay, density and borders are set up so the foam is sealed in and the finish looks clean.

Honest feedback

If a detail is too small to puff well, we'll flag it and suggest a fix before production.

FAQ

Common
questions.

What artwork works best for 3D puff?

Bold lettering, monograms and simple logos. Tiny text and very fine lines tend to get lost under the foam.

Do I need a different file for puff?

Yes. A puff file is digitized differently from flat embroidery. Choose 3D puff on the order form so we build it correctly.

Can I use puff on only part of a design?

Yes. Many designs use puff for the main lettering and flat stitching for the rest. Mention it when you order.

How much does 3D puff digitizing cost?

It follows size-based pricing: up to 5 inches starts at $10, larger designs are $25.
